SIG H5 - Urban Transport in Developing Countries

SIG-H5, formerly SIG7, is one of the oldest SIGs and it is a joint activity of WCTRS with CODATU (Cooperation for urban mobility in the developing world). CODATU promotes transport research in developing countries by bringing together researchers, academics, professionals, operators, policymakers, users, international organizations and donors and encourages sustainable urban mobility in developing countries by conferences, encouraging city-to-city cooperation and training to transportation professionals.

Efficient and affordable urban transport and mobility for all are of prime importance for the developing world. As the economic and land-use characteristics of urban areas in developing countries are often very different from those prevailing in industrialized countries, new and appropriate transport planning, engineering and management approaches are required.

SIG-H5 covers comprehensive topics that include, but not limit to, the technical, legal, financial, as well as the institutional frameworks of urban transport in developing countries.

Area of Interests

Potential research topics include:
  • Traffic Congestion Mitigation
  • Traffic Safety
  • Parking Management
  • Transit System for Mid-Size City
  • Transit Oriented Development
  • Accessibility Management
  • CO2 Emission Reduction
